Metabolic alterations, mostly type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and obesity [2,3], as well as genetic predisposition, especially polymorphism in the patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) gene [4,5,6,7], are risk factors for NAFLD onset and progression towards advanced liver disease. This evidence concerns the gene PNPLA3 and liver disorder.
