Acute light- and moderate intensity walking breaks (2 min bouts every 20 min for 5 h) have been associated with differentially expressed genes involved in CHO and lipid metabolism (pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 [PDK4] and nicotinamide N-methyltransferase [NNMT], respectively) as well as in cellular development, growth, and proliferation (myogenic factor 6 [MYF6], epithelial membrane protein 1 [EMP1], and dynein, light chain, LC8-type 1, transcript variant 1 [DYNLL1]) in adults with overweight or obesity [16]. Here, NNMT is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
