Recently, several biomarkers of early structural kidney injury such as cystatin C, kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), klotho and fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) have been reported that they may identify early AKI before a significant increase in SCr level, but are not widely used in septic AKI [2, 9]. The gene discussed is KL; the disease is acute kidney injury.
