In this regard, Yang et al. showed that the systemic administration of MSC secretome reduced liver inflammation and enhanced its antioxidant capacity, increasing the expression of genes encoding sirtuin 1 (SIRT-1), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator alpha (PGC1a), Nrf-2 and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) maintaining mitochondrial function in an animal model of hepatic steatosis [121]. The gene discussed is SIRT1; the disease is fatty liver disease.
