In keeping with its preference for misfolded proteins (Edkins, 2015), CHIP appears to be particularly important for turnover of destabilized LRRK2 variants, such as the sporadic PD modest-risk allele LRRK2 G2385R, and may not be as critical for other LRRK2-PD mutants (Rudenko et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene STUB1 and Parkinson disease.
