These limitations seems to have been overcame with ABT-199 (also known as venetoclax), a potent and selective Bcl-2 binder, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of first-line and relapsed/refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) 25, 26. The gene discussed is BCL2; the disease is B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
