Recently, the transcriptomic evaluation of placentas in women with preeclampsia (9) allowed for the identification of changes in the expression of genes related to obesity, such as leptin (LEP) (10), leptin receptor (LEPR) (11), adiponectin (ADIPOQ) (12), alpha-ketoglutarate dependent dioxygenase (FTO) (13), and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPAR-y) (14). The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
