Rosiglitazone is an agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), a member of the family of nuclear hormone receptors that function as ligand-activated transcription factors, and is reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and also neuroprotective properties (Berger and Moller, 2002; Lehrke and Lazar, 2005; Kapadia et al., 2008) and prevented mortality, inflammatory response, neuroinflammation, and vascular dysfunction associated to experimental models of malaria and sepsis (Serghides et al., 2009, 2014; Araújo et al., 2012). Here, PPARG is linked to malaria.
