Given that tumour cells rely on glycolysis for the production of ATP under hypoxia, the findings from this study demonstrate that inhibition of PD-1 intrinsic signalling in OAC cells upregulates GLUT1 on the surface of a subpopulation of OAC cells, further supporting the hypothesis that inhibition of PD-1 under glucose-deprivation or hypoxia in OAC cells is enhancing glycolysis and subsequent survival under these harsh conditions. This evidence concerns the gene SLC2A1 and neoplasm.
