TNF and Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome: HPS is characterized by high levels of inflammatory cytokines, including interferon-γ, interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-18, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), which are secreted by activated T cells, excessive proliferous macrophages, and monocytes.[1] The cytokine storm is responsible for the clinical manifestations and laboratory data observed in multiorgan damage, as seen in HPS.
