Subsequent impairment of glucocorticoid-mediated inhibition of transcription regulated by NF-κB (nuclear factor κ-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells) leads to increased production of proinflammatory cytokines like TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor α) or IL-6 (interleukin 6).123 Increased frequency of discrimination, decreased social support, social isolation, and depression have all been linked to acquired glucocorticoid receptor resistance.119,124–126 However, more work is needed to systematically examine the role of SDoH in the development of acquired glucocorticoid receptor resistance. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is depressive symptom measurement.
