The increase in these cytokines is important for fungal infection control, as IL-6 is responsible for the recruitment of neutrophils (Cheng et al., 2012); IL-1β is related to IL-17 production, important for defense against C. albicans (Cheng et al., 2012), and IL-8 may act by increasing the anticandidal activity (Szolnoky et al., 2001) and proliferation of keratinocytes, essential for maintaining epithelial integrity and barrier function (Rennekampff et al., 2000). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and fungal infectious disease.
