The rearrangements of individual tumors in a cohort of 560 breast cancers were systematically investigated, and it reveals that simultaneous amplification of chromosome 8—ZNF703/FGFR1—and chromosome 11—CCND1—where there is a chromosome 8–chromosome 11 translocation, is likely to be an early, critical, initiating event in breast cancer [19]. The gene discussed is FGFR1; the disease is breast cancer.
