The cell adhesion molecule N-cadherin represents a biomolecule marker for the EMT, which leads to the establishment of an aggressive and invasive cancer cell phenotype through a so-called cadherin-switch that is subsequently associated with a transformation of a non-motile (epithelial) to a motile (mesenchymal) phenotype (Wheelock et al., 2008; Gheldof and Berx, 2013). This evidence concerns the gene CDH2 and cancer.
