The role of neutrophils in cancer is still controversial, but in recent years, thyroid cancer cells have been shown to be able to recruit neutrophils by releasing CXCL8/IL-8, improve their own survival by releasing granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, enhancing the pro-inflammatory response of neutrophils, and upregulate the expression of pro-oncogenic factors (Galdiero et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and thyroid gland carcinoma.
