Accordingly, TAC-triggered cardiac hypertrophy (reduced heart sized, LV wall thickness, HW to TL ratio, and myocyte area) (Fig. 5c–d), interstitial fibrosis (Fig. 5e), infiltration of Mac-2+ macrophages (Fig. 5f), superoxide production (Fig. 5g), and the percentage of TUNEL+ myocytes (Fig. 5h) were significantly attenuated in RAPA-treated hearts relative to vehicle-treated hearts (Fig. 5c–h). The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is cardiac hypertrophy.
