Actually, vitamin D is widely prescribed, and because PXE patients are affected by an increased calcium phosphate supersaturation in blood (due to the low pyrophosphate level), our aim was to identify whether moderate doses of vitamin D and/or calcium intakes would accelerate arterial calcification in a long-term murine model of PXE (Abcc6−/− mice). The gene discussed is ABCC6; the disease is Pseudoxanthoma elasticum.
