Amongst animal models of depression, Oh et al. [21] previously found CUMS decreased colonic expression of free fatty acid receptor 2 and Tian et al. [77] showed free fatty acid receptor 2 and 3 expression to be decreased by CSDS, suggesting that stress can modulate the gut’s capacity to respond to SCFA, in turn modulating eating behaviour.
