DSG1 and staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome: They specifically are capable of cleaving the desmosomal cadherin desmoglein 1 (Dsg1), which mediates cell–cell adhesion in a superficial layer of the skin, leading to Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), a severe skin disease presenting with rash, blisters, and severe lesion damage of the skin.
