The two hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques of Aβ42 and Aβ40 peptides, the 42-residue species being the most toxic and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles built from hyperphosphorylated tau protein [1]. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
