Since the mid-1980s, peculiar Kp lineages, denominated hypervirulent Kp (Hv-Kp), have emerged worldwide and are responsible for pyogenic infections with metastatic dissemination (e.g., liver abscesses, osteomyelitis, and endophthalmitis) [6], even in immunocompetent hosts [7,8]. The gene discussed is NPPA; the disease is endophthalmitis.
