During the acute phase of COVID-19, our patients with severe pneumonia had more lung inflammation, demonstrated by higher CXR scores, as well as more systemic inflammation, demonstrated by increased inflammatory mediators and cytokines (cytokine storm), which presented with lymphopenia, high NLR, PLR, and serum CRP, similar to previous studies [29,30,31]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and susceptibility to pneumonia measurement.
