A recently published single-center, prospective observational study enrolling 111 decompensated cirrhotic patients without AKI at the time of admission showed plasma Cystatin C and urine NGAL but not urine [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] to be potentially useful biomarkers for early sensitive detection of AKI [24]. This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP7 and acute kidney injury.
