Lycopene treatment (0, 2, 5, 10 μM) was shown to inhibit the PI3K–AKT signalling pathway in colon cancer cells, demonstrating its effects on tumour development via angiogenesis inhibition. Assessment of cell proliferation using MTT assay and gene expression investigated using transient transfection and luciferase reporter assays. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is malignant colon neoplasm.
