Cross tabulation of genetic prevalence was marginally significant only for MMP-8 (codominant model), although MMP-8 G/G genotype (recessive model) was more prevalent in sepsis patients than in non-infective SIRS patients (35.6 vs. 26%) with an increase in risk of 58% (95%CI 1.04–2.42). This evidence concerns the gene MMP8 and systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
