Investigations into sHLA-G, including purified sHLA-G1 protein and sHLA-G-linked extracellular vesicles, revealed the potential role of sHLA-G in mediating immune-modulatory activities in different diseases towards differential modifications in the phenotype of CD8 T cells [20,47] and suggested it as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker even being implicated in the predisposition to infection [11,48,49]. The gene discussed is HLA-G; the disease is infection.
