A useful help can come from molecular findings; in particular, the most frequent altered genes in mesothelioma are BRCA1-associated protein 1 gene (BAP1), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A,) and neurofibromatosis type 2 gene (NF2), coding for merlin, an oncosuppressor protein involved in mTOR signaling [1,2,3,4]. The gene discussed is NF2; the disease is mesothelioma.
