Previously, several large studies found that SNP rs4420638 APOC1 is associated with a variety of cardiometabolic and other phenotypes such as an increase in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [11,25], increased activity of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 [41], triglyceride levels [42,43], total cholesterol [44], decreased HDL cholesterol [43], increased risk of type 2 diabetes [45], Alzheimer’s disease [46,47], and age-related macular degeneration [48]. This evidence concerns the gene PLA2G7 and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
