Noncoding RNAs, which can be classified as small (sncRNA, <200 nucleotides in length) or long (lncRNAs, >200 nucleotides in length), have also been shown to contribute to depression [49,50], and MeCP2 is an important ncRNA-binding protein (see [48] for a review). The gene discussed is MECP2; the disease is major depressive disorder.
