The term immunocompromised patients generally refers to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients with extremely low CD4+ T cell counts [2], while in the hematology patient population, CMV retinitis is usually related to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) [3], although this is uncommon, and post-autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) CMV retinitis has been reported in recent years [4]. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and cytomegalovirus retinitis.
