That contrasts with the significant elevation in IL-6 that we found associated with chorioamnionitis or neonatal sepsis but not diabetes; this finding of increased IL-6 with presumed infection increases confidence that if leptin played a significant augmentative role in perinatal infection-related inflammation within our cohort, we would have noted altered cord blood levels or a correlation between IL-6 and leptin.
