The pleiotropic actions of MINO include increasing effects on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels, anti-apoptosis activities (9), inhibition of metalloproteinase, protection of blood-brain barrier (10), and lipophilic properties with high permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), led to a significant area of interest as a novel viable treatment for focal and chronic cerebral ischemia, inflammatory disorders such as multiple sclerosis, hepatic encephalopathy, rheumatoid arthritis and even in psychiatric disorders (11-13).
