On the other hand, it was reported that circulating FGF21 levels were more than 25-fold higher in hepatic steatosis (mean ± SD, 7.7 ± 2.9 ng/mL) as compared to healthy adults (0.3 ± 0.1 ng/mL) [30] and the frequency of undetected or abnormal levels of serum FGF21 did not differ between the groups in the present study.
