PCSK9 and Stroke: Statins plus cholesterol absorption inhibitors (eg, ezetimibe) or proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors (alirocumab and evolocumab) compared with statins alone were associated with reduced major cardiovascular events and strokes for patients with a history of acute coronary syndrome or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in clinical trials.9,10,11 However, whether those medications (ezetimibe or PCSK9 inhibitors) are beneficial as add-on therapy to statins for patients with prior stroke has not been definitively established, to our knowledge.
