In our work we could confirm that empagliflozin induced in ZDF rats a drop in the hepatic gene expression of the inflammatory marker IL-6, what had been previously reported in mice models of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with diabetes after treatment with this drug (Jojima et al., 2016; Nasiri-Ansari et al., 2021), Our results also show, for the first time, that empagliflozin is able to induce a significant decline in the hepatic gene expression both of the adipokine chemerin and of chemerin receptor. This evidence concerns the gene RARRES2 and diabetes mellitus.
