Injections of the caspase-1 inhibitor, Ac-YVAD-CMK, into the brains of two rat models of Parkinson’s disease (LPS-induced and 6-OHDA induced) reduced neurodegeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and reduced the expression of inflammasome components (Mao et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and Parkinson disease.
