STIM1 and cardiomyopathy: Several groups have shown that cardiomyocytes lacking or deficient in STIM1 develop a cardiomyopathy (Collins et al., 2014; Hulot et al., 2011; Luo et al., 2012; Ohba et al., 2009; Parks et al., 2016; Voelkers et al., 2010), and we have shown that loss of cardiomyocyte STIM1 is associated with the development of mitochondrial abnormalities (Collins et al., 2014, 2018), ER stress (Collins et al., 2014), and changes in cardiomyocyte glucose and lipid metabolism (Collins et al., 2018).
