KCNA3 and cancer: We have previously shown that the mitochondria-targeted Kv1.3 inhibitor PAPTP is able to selectively kill cancer cells [29], due to synergy between inhibition of mtKv1.3 – highly expressed in neoplastic cells –leading to massive ROS production and the high basal levels of ROS [29, 47] typical of many types of cancer cells [48]; thus, PAPTP kills neoplastic cells by inducing strong oxidative stress above a critical threshold.
