IL6 and sarcopenia: It is now well established that muscle loss and weakness (sarcopenia and dynapenia) are the main symptoms of frailty, caused by inflammatory (elevated interleukin 6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα)), metabolic (deficiencies of various mitochondrial subunits), and hormonal derangements (cortisol and testosterone) that shift homeostasis from an anabolic to a catabolic state [8–16].
