Interestingly, the human equivalent to BLG, human lipocalin‐2 (huLCN2), is used as a diagnostic urinary marker in chronic kidney disease28; but LCN2 also has a functional role: in cancer, where immune tolerance is detrimental, elevated huLCN2 levels are prognostic29, 30; in contrast, its levels are reduced in allergics and can be corrected by allergen immunotherapy, pointing towards a role in immune tolerance.31 The gene discussed is LCN2; the disease is cancer.
