PRRT2 and Hyperglycemia: Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate accumulation in cells is involved in the activation of two processes which mediate hyperglycemia complications, i.e., either it activates the AGE pathway by dragging glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate into the non-enzymatic synthesis of methylglyoxal, or the elevated level of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate facilitates diacylglycerol production which, in turn, activates the PKC pathway.
