We first turned our attention to the most current guidelines from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), which has recommend the use of medications classified as sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) for individuals with T2D on Metformin AND diagnosed with EITHER heart failure (HF) OR chronic kidney disease (CKD) [5], as clearly discussed by Colling, et al. [6]. The gene discussed is GLP1R; the disease is hydrops fetalis.
