SARM1 and retinal degeneration: Given that we have observed significant functional and histological benefit in the rotenone-induced retinal degeneration mouse model, and in addition, have found a significantly increased bioenergetic profile in primary Sarm1−/− fibroblasts compared to wild type Sarm1+/+ cells, it is highly suggestive that the increased bioenergetic profile contributes to the protective effect observed in vivo in retina.
