Because neutrophil migration in the airways and inflammation are prominent features of COPD [40,41], we measured the expression of IL-8, the major chemoattractant of neutrophils in the lungs [41,42], as well as Chemokine C-X-C motif 1 and 2 (CXCL1 and CXCL2, respectively).
