SQSTM1 and cancer: Chronic accumulation of p62 leads to constant activation of the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kB), the redox-sensitive transcriptional nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (NRF-2), and the mTOR pathway, thus preventing inflammation and oxidative stress while ensuring adequate energy levels for cancer cells, respectively.
