Advances in genetic research, drug development, and clinical trials have resulted in the recommendation that patients diagnosed with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who harbor activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene be treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as the first-line treatment [1,2]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
