Following up these encouraging results, a disappointing pilot clinical trial was recently performed to assess feasibility and efficacy of expanding cord blood CD34+ cells for transplantation in patients of hematological malignancies, using a combination of SCF, TPO, FLT3L and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2 (IGFBP-2), and coculture with BM haplo-identical MSC obtained from the BM of a family member of the patient (NCT01624701). Here, IGFBP2 is linked to hematologic disorder.
