The metabolism of glutamate into α-ketoglutarate is catalyzed by glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GDH1), glutamate pyruvate transaminase 2 (GPT2), or glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase 1 and 2 (GOT1 (cytoplasmic) and GOT2 (mitochondrial)), which were al previously reported to be overexpressed in cancer [89,90,91,92]. The gene discussed is GOT1; the disease is cancer.
