This widespread expression of ACE2 leads to the numerous extrapulmonary manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 infection outlined in a recent paper as thrombotic complications, myocardial dysfunction and arrhythmias, acute coronary syndromes, acute kidney injury, gastrointestinal symptoms, hepatocellular injury, hyperglycemia and ketosis, neurologic illnesses, ocular symptoms and dermatologic complications, thus making COVID-19 a truly systemic disease (7).
