Cytokine-induced memory-like (CIML) natural killer cells are preactivated with interleukin-12 (IL-12), IL-15, and IL-18, followed by adoptive transfer into patients with active acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and exhibit enhanced responses against leukemia target cells weeks later, in the form of IFN-γ production and cytotoxicity, indicating that CIML NK cells represent potent antitumor effector cells for leukemia immunotherapies (85, 86).
